Green Smoothie

The Greenest Green Green Smoothie of all the land.

The green smoothie is the camouflage smoothie of the health and wellness community. No matter what you put in there, if it’s green it won’t blow your cover that you are really drinking the sugariest fruit loaded smoothie you could find. As a healthy warrior of the wellness community I’m on to you. While green smoothies are a great start to the morning or a great way to make sure you are “allegedly” getting your vegetables, most store-bought or even homemade smoothies tend to be lite on veggies heavy on fruit and sugar. The best green smoothie is not just green in color but green in its ingredients.

The Not So Secrets of the Blue Zones and Why They Have the Highest Life Expectancy.

I wanna live forever! No I don’t actually but the Blue Zones are writing the book about living RIGHT. These “magical” zones are areas of the globe where people are living healthier happier longer lives and the rest of the world is asking why and how can I? Their secret is in the most obvious of reasons. What are the Blue Zones? In 2005 researcher, explorer and author Dan Buettner set out to find the areas of the world where people live the longest. After a few years traveling he was able to classify 5 regions who beat out the rest of the world in longevity. These regions are places where old age and quality of life are in fact synonymous. Let’s learn:   Sardinia, Italy: Mountain villages, in particular a village called Seulo actually hold the record for “the place where people live the longest in the world”. Okinawa, Japan: The Japanese are the best- we all know it. This geographic location has been the most popular for some time producing many centenarians of the …

Haircare Tips for When Your Hair is Acting like an Asshole on Alopecia.

When I noticed my hair started falling out I wanted to put my head in a bubble and sleep upright so nothing touched my head. That was a little extreme of course and once I understood the four STAGES OF HAIR GROWTH I had an idea of how I could realistically care for my hair. How do I care for my hair when it is falling out? 1. Put down the hair products If you are using hair spray, gels, or other styling products be careful. Adding stress or resistance (literally hairspray) to your hair may cause your hair to break. It is also tough to manage if you are brushing through hair spray. 2. Step away from the heating products…initially. I also took a break from blow drying my hair (which I’ll be honest I don’t do anyway because that’s how I roll), other than when I ABSOLUTELY had to for work. Curling irons, straighteners, and other types of heat related tools did not come near my hair the first few weeks because I …

Understanding Alopecia and the Stages of Hair Growth.

I changed my diet and I’m still losing hair! This is a common phrase we alopecia folks say to ourselves. There is more to hair loss than just diet, though diet is a HUGE factor in how I re-grew my hair. Your hair has its own hair growth cycle and understanding how that works can help put your mind at ease when you notice the strands and tears coming down in the shower. What are the stages of hair growth? Hair growth has four stages where your hair follicles either shed, rest, or grow. Losing hair is actually a very natural part of that hair growth process. In fact, we lose hair so we can replace it.  On average during a normal hair growth cycle we can lose anywhere from 50 to 100 strands of hair a day. If you have alopecia it feels like every strand counts. While changing my diet was a major factor in what helped assist my hair regrowth, it was not instantaneous. From the time I noticed the first small …
